keepers of the spirit.
Howdy! My name is Roy May and I am a junior Yell Leader and a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2015! I am also a member of the veteran outfit, Delta Company, in the Corps of Cadets and am an Industrial Distribution Major in the Dwight Look College of Engineering.
Texas A&M has always been a part of my life, as my father was Class of ’66 and my sister was Class of ’95. In fact, I was born in Bryan while my father was completing one of his masters here at A&M. I have been bleeding maroon since the day I was born, but I certainly took an alternate route to get here. I spent twelve years in the Army as an Airborne Infantryman before finally being able to realize my dream of earning my Aggie Ring and degree. I traveled from Washington DC, to San Diego, to Fort Bragg, NC and even overseas to Iraq. Throughout it all, I carried my love and passion for Texas A&M. While in Washington DC, I had the honor of serving as a Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery, aided in rescue and recovery in the Pentagon following the attacks of 9/11, and even was honored with standing at the head of the Late President Reagan’s casket as he laid in state in the Capitol. In North Carolina, I served with the 82nd Airborne Division as a squad leader in the 1st of the 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, where I also deployed as a combat squad leader to Iraq in 2009.
After returning from my deployment, I came to an important crossroads in my future in the Army. Though I loved my experiences in the Army, as an Aggie at heart, I made the decision to forego staying in active service so I could come and earn my degree at Texas A&M. This past year has been an unforgettable one for me and my family.
The ability to represent Texas A&M as a junior Yell Leader to Texas, the SEC and the country has been nothing short of amazing. Hopefully I have upheld the expectations the student body had of me in my duties and I would be nothing short of blessed if given the opportunity to represent this great University as a Senior Yell Leader. I love Texas A&M with all of my heart and hope you have enjoyed this past year in Aggieland as much as I have. Gig ‘em and God bless!
